At Bambini Montessori Academy the environment is specially designed with manipulative "materials for development" that invite children to engage in learning activities of their own individual choice. Under the guidance of our Montessori trained teachers, children at Bambini Montessori Academy learn by making discoveries with the materials, motivation, cultivating concentration, self-discipline, and a love of learning.
Bambini Montessori Academy "prepared environment" is Maria Montessori's concept that the environment is designed to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration by the child, within the environment.
In our prepared environment, there is a variety of activities as well as a great deal of movement. In our preschool classroom, for example, a three-year-old may be working in the Practical Life area washing dishes by hand, while a four-year-old nearby is in the Language area, composing words and phrases with letters known as the movable alphabet and a five-year-old in the Math area, performing multiplication using a specially designed set of beads. In an elementary classroom, a small group of six- to nine-year-old children may be in the Science area, using a timeline to learn about extinct animals while another child chooses to work alone, analyzing a poem using special grammar symbols. At different times of the day the entire class may be involved in a group activity, such as storytelling, singing, games, music & movement and different activities.
In the calm, ordered space of our Montessori prepared environment, children work on activities at their own pace and choice. They experience a blend of freedom and self-discipline in a place especially designed to meet their developmental needs.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the teacher should focus on the child as a person rather than on the daily lesson plans. Although we Montessori teachers plan daily lessons for each child, we are alert to changes in the child’s interest, progress, mood, and behavior.
